What Are Expeditions in the Route 9 Update?

Loomian Legacy expeditions are a new system introduced with the October 30, 2026, Route 9 update. They join an expansion that brings new Loomians, a large map, and more story adventures with Mabel, Lucas, Lucy, and Jake. Field Capture also arrives in this update, adding another way to encounter and collect Loomians.

Here’s how the main additions fit into the expansion:

Route 9 additionWhat it brings
ExpeditionsA new gameplay system
Field CaptureA new way to encounter and collect Loomians

New LoomiansMore species to discover and collect

Play Loomian Legacy on Roblox to explore Route 9 and its new features.

Explore Route 9 With an Overworld Hunting Loop

While exploring the expansion, work through several encounter areas in one circuit. Overworld encounters refresh every five minutes, and moving back and forth between areas does not force an immediate refresh.

Loomian Legacy — Explore Route 9 With an Overworld Hunting Loop

Use this route to check encounters across the map:

  1. Start at Route 9 train station. Head around the corner and check the nearby overworld Loomians.
  2. Continue into the mines. Look through the main area and check the pond for encounters.
  3. Pass through the tree area. Scan the Loomians along the path before continuing.
  4. Check the spider area. Follow the connecting pathway through its encounter spots.
  5. Continue through Flurry Fields. Check the snowy encounter areas.
  6. Travel to Halfpine Village. Head down the path into the woods and check the encounters near the entrance.
  7. Finish at Glacial Lake. Return toward the snowy pathway, pass the tower, and follow the route to the lake.

A circuit can take around three to four minutes, with catches adding extra time. If you finish before the five-minute refresh, spend the remaining time catching Loomians or taking grass encounters before starting another lap.

Catch a Loomian you want when you spot it: overworld encounters can despawn. Learn the paths before activating a timed Loomiboost so you can spend its duration searching instead of finding your way around.

Loomiboosts cover several different goals, including Gleaming hunting, Roaming and Corrupt encounters, experience gain, training points, and rally rate. Choose the boost that matches your activity before spending a token. An experience boost doubles battle XP, while the Gleaming boost increases your chances for 15 minutes. Increased odds still leave each hunt dependent on chance; activating a boost does not guarantee a rare encounter.

Boost Tokens are available through map crates and Mastery rewards, alongside the option to purchase them. Check those earned supplies before buying more for a hunting session. Keep catching and training goals separate when choosing your boost: extra experience helps level your team, while encounter-focused boosts serve a different purpose.

For personality hunting, put a Loomian with Harmonize in the first party slot. Wild Loomians share that lead Loomian’s personality. The ability also has a separate battle effect: an opponent that inflicts a status ailment on its possessor receives the same ailment unless immune. Check your lead’s ability and personality before heading into wild encounters.

Secret Abilities give you another detail to inspect on a catch. Wild Loomians have a 1/512 Secret Ability rate by default, improving to 1/256 with the Ability Charm. On a Loomian’s summary page, a purple sigma symbol identifies a Secret Ability. Inspect that marker when reviewing your catches rather than judging a Loomian only by its appearance.

If you spend the gap between circuits battling for experience, Carol offers a party-wide benefit. Keep its possessor alive and in the first slot before battle to give every party member 10% more battle experience, including benched Loomians. That makes party order relevant even when the Loomian you want to train is somewhere else in your team.
