Can Fossil Revivals Have Secret Abilities?

Loomian Legacy fossils offer a chance to collect a Secret Ability Loomian through Petrolith revival. The default Secret Ability rate is 1/256, improving to 1/64 with the Ability Charm. If you’re hunting for that rarer ability, the charm makes a substantial difference to your revival odds.

Abilities affect how a Loomian functions in battle or the overworld, so checking the result matters beyond filling your collection.

Petrolith Secret Ability Rates

Petrolith revival setupSecret Ability chance
Without Ability Charm1/256
With Ability Charm1/64

The Ability Charm makes a Secret Ability four times as likely on a Petrolith revival. Each revival remains a chance-based result, even with the charm.

Plan for repeated attempts when targeting a Secret Ability. A rate of 1/64 describes the chance per revival, rather than a guaranteed reward after 64 revivals.

How Revival Odds Compare With Other Methods

Use the rates for Petrolith revival when planning your hunt. Different ways of obtaining Loomians have different Secret Ability chances, and the Ability Charm does not improve every method by the same amount.

For ordinary wild encounters, the default Secret Ability rate is 1/512, improving to 1/256 with the Ability Charm. Petrolith revival starts at that same 1/256 rate without the charm, while its charm-assisted rate is 1/64.

Rallying has another set of values. A rallied Loomian normally has a 1/256 Secret Ability chance, or 1/128 with the Ability Charm. With a Secret Ability Rally Leader, those rates become 1/64 without the charm and 1/32 with it. Those Rally Leader rates apply to rallying; use the revival rates above for a Petrolith hunt.

Strangely-acting Loomians during weather conditions have their own rates: 1/128 by default and 1/32 with the Ability Charm. Keep the obtaining method attached to any odds you compare. A weather encounter, a rallied Loomian, and a revived Petrolith each use their respective chances.

How to Identify a Secret Ability Revival

Check your revived Loomian’s summary page for the purple symbol containing the Greek letter sigma (ς). That symbol identifies a Secret Ability.

Loomian Legacy — How to Identify a Secret Ability Revival

Use this quick checklist when reviewing your collection:

  • Inspect the summary: Look for the purple Secret Ability symbol.
  • Read the ability: Abilities can influence battle mechanics or overworld effects.
  • Inspect trades carefully: Secret Ability Loomians also have a purple marker in the trading interface.

Abilities belong to the Loomian from the start and can change through evolution. When planning an evolved team member, consider its ability alongside its evolution rather than judging the revived form alone.

For a concrete example of evolution changing an ability, a Phancub with Adorable evolves into an Ursoul with Terrifying. This illustrates why the ability on an unevolved Loomian deserves attention alongside the form you intend to use. Abilities can only be changed through evolution.

Read the Effect Alongside the Secret Ability Marker

The purple symbol tells you that a Loomian has its Secret Ability. Read the ability’s effect separately to understand what it actually does. Abilities cover very different mechanics, including damage, Energy use, defensive protection, and support for teammates.

These examples explain the kinds of effects you can encounter across the game; they are not a list of abilities available through Petrolith revival:

  • Expertise decreases move Energy costs by 25%. Its effect concerns the resources spent using moves.
  • Brute Force removes secondary effects from attacks while increasing their damage by 30%. Read both parts of that effect when considering a move.
  • Clutch prevents a Loomian from being knocked out by one attack while it is at full Health. The full-Health condition is part of the protection.
  • Guardian reduces the damage an ally takes by 25% in Double Battles. Its effect specifically supports a teammate in that battle format.
  • Carol grants the entire party 10% more Experience from battles, including Benched Loomians, when its living possessor occupies the first party slot before battle.

Check activation conditions as carefully as the percentage. For example, Ambush doubles damage against a target that entered battle that turn, while Aggressive raises Melee Attack by one stage after its possessor defeats a Loomian. One depends on the opponent entering battle; the other depends on securing a knockout. Read your revival’s actual ability description with that same attention to its trigger.
